Ethical Guidelines

At the Character Sheet Archive, we want to be a service to the gaming community. And that goes for the companies that produce these wonderful games we love so much. These people, many of them hard-core gamers like you and me, work extremly hard to produce these games. To protect themselves they copyright their material and sell it. If they cannot make some dough, there will be no games. We don't begrudge any company who vigorously protects their copyrights.

Contrary to popular opinion, the giving away unauthorized copies of copyrighted material, even if not for profit, is copyright infringement.

That argument didn't work for Napster, and it definately won't work for us!

Since this archive exists on the good graces of the companies who's sheets we provide, we want to have here some written guidelinges as to what we will and will not post. Some of thee are in the submission section, but here is the full skinny...

1.) Commercial Sheets: We will not post any sheets currently in print & being
sold for profit. The companies often work hard to make these sheets a step up
from the free sheets in the book and do not wish to interfere with their sale.

2.) Out Of Print / Corrected: We will post commercial sheets that are currently
out of print. Since there is usually no clear avenue to obtain these sheets we offer
them for non-profit use. If however a company sees their out-of-printsheets here
and wishes to have them removed, they may request such.We will immediately remove
them. We usually only require that the person requesting the material be pulled,
identify themselves so weknow they hold the copyright in question. We also will provide
a commercially available sheet if the original had an error and there is a correction
available. These will be listed as corrected sheets. We will not post other material
from the product in question. Also, a company may ask the corrected material be removed.

3.) Permission: It is our policy to try and obtain permission before providing
sheets but sometime we will post the material and then request permission.
Most companies appriciate our efforts to support their games and happily give
us their blessings. A couple have not, but as stated above, we respect their
position and will comply with their wishes.

Also if a company wishes for us to post any legal notices or disclaimers, we will happily do so.

4.) No Response: In the event we request permission, and receive no response from the
company in question, we will often go ahead and provide their material. If the
company then decides to decline to grant us permission, we will immeditely comply
in accordance to sections 2 & 3.

5.) Fan Created Sheets: As someone who works as an art director, and has
created a number of sheets myself, I am sensitive to the sanctity of another
artists work. If you see a sheet of yours here, and want it removed, just let
me know, and I will remove it ASAP.

6.) Credit - I always try to provide credit to the creator of a sheet, be it a fan
or company created sheet. Fan-created sheets: I will list a credit to the
creator and use what ever name or nick name they wish as well as provide
email & web-links at sheets location. Web sites may also be linked in the Links
section as well. Company Credit: In most cases, the game has it's own section
however in a couple cases I may choose to put all of a companies material in
on section. The official material will be listed as such and wbe links to the sites
of the companies will be at the sheet locations (these links open within the CSA
site.) and in the Links section (these links open outside of the CSA site.)

Also, as stated in Section 3, if a company wishes for us to post any legal notices
or disclaimers, with their material, we will happily do so.
